Seth Godin – Tribes

One of the top books on my Christmas 2008 wishlist was the book Tribes by Seth Godin.  Ever since I read it in early 2009, I’ve been proclaiming the concept of tribe-building in my trainings.

It’s a totally different way for most people to think about building their businesses, but religious organizations and even non-profits regularly use the concepts to build their following.

Seth shares about couple of major companies that have successfully implemented the tribal element in this video from TED:

As I watched this video again today after visiting Tim Moore’s Say It Community, the part where Seth talks about the Kindle really stood out to me.

I realized, this concept is what is being created in the Inspired Rock Star coaching community.

There are thousands, if not millions, of small business owners who are attending workshops, downloading ebooks, reading blogs and working hard to get the edge in today’s marketplace.

Many are attending networking events, tweeting and facebooking at the speed of light.

But where is the collaboration?  Wouldn’t it be cool to see what other business owners are actually doing to get results?

Think about what Seth said in the video.  What if you could see a “crowdsourced” version of that electronic book you’re reading?  The one where others who are reading it are making notes, providing input and sharing their thoughts.

What if we took that concept and applied it to e-learning?

Check it out – when you take the Inspired Rock Star online marketing course, you turn your assignments in by way of community postings.  Others can see your blog entries, articles, social networking, ideas and results.  You get to see theirs too. And together, everyone collaborates.

You’ll go through the course as a team…a tribe, if you will.

There isn’t anything else like it (at least that I know of).

I’m sure someone will duplicate the concept soon, but that doesn’t matter.

What matters is that you are present in this space NOW.
